Frequently Asked Questions
What insurance do you accept?
We currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, Aetna, and United Health Care, Cigna, and self-pay.
What would I pay without insurance and are there any other fees?
Without insurance, initial intake sessions are $220 and all follow-up appointments are $200 each. Additional fees include phone calls over 15 minutes for $50 per 15 minutes and letters for $100. Please review your rights here when it comes to fees without insurance.
Can I do telehealth?
Yes, telehealth is always an option as long as you’re located in Illinois at the time of your appointment. Telehealth can be convenient for those wanting to invest in therapy and take advantage of having sessions from the comfort of their own private space.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Clients can email their therapist at any time about appointments. Appointments must be canceled 48 hours in advance in order to avoid a $100 fee. Clients will also be automatically charged that fee if they choose not to show up to a session without notifying their therapist.
What does therapy look like?
Therapy is personal and different for each person and therapist. During an intake session, your therapist will spend time getting to know you and your therapeutic goals. Follow-up appointments will focus on those goals and explore what brought you into therapy.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are typically 53 minutes long.
What if I have a mental health emergency?
Your therapist will create a safety plan with you during your session, but in case of emergencies outside of sessions, please call 911 or visit your local emergency room. You can also find additional information on our resource page.
What is your policy on safety and violence?
Calm Skies Therapy reserves the right to refuse services to anyone for the safety of everyone. We have a zero tolerance policy for any threats or acts of violence, whether direct, indirect, or implied, towards staff, clients, vendors, or guests. Anyone exhibiting such behavior will be asked to leave immediately and may be banned from returning. Law enforcement may be contacted if necessary, and violators who return will face legal action.
What are your policies when working with teenagers?
For mental health therapy, minors 12 years and older have the right to privacy from their parent or guardian. This means without consent from the teenager only limited information can be shared. Parents will not know what’s being said in session outside of diagnosis, treatment plan, and issues involving safety unless the teenager gives explicit and informed consent to share. This policy follows state and federal law. Any information shared with the therapist by the parent will be shared with the teen. Parents may be invited into session when appropriate and can give a brief update on progress but will not take more than 10 minutes of the teenager’s session time. Parents are not permitted to give detailed information about a situation to the therapist without the teenager knowing or being there as this leads to ethical issues and breaks the therapeutic trust between the teen and the therapist.
